cox graae + spack architects developed a 5-phase master plan to transform the Potomac Job Corps Center in Washington DC. The US Department of Labor was seeking to elevate the Center into a flagship facility after which the nation’s other centers will be modeled. The Potomac Job Corp Center provides job-training for economically disadvantaged youth ages 16 – 20. This third phase involved the construction of two new 27,000 sf, 136-bed dormitories designed with sweeping butterfly roofs and incorporating sustainable design features including geothermal ground source heat pump systems and recycled or sustainable building materials.
