October 6, 2015. Our firm was the recipient of a pair of awards this fall. The first, an AIA VA Awards for Excellence Honor Award for 2015 in the Residential category for our Alexandria Residence. Congratulations to Principal Joanna Schmickel and the rest of the team on this award! It was one of 24 projects selected from a field of over 150 to receive an Honor Award. cg+s was also notified that our firm was recognized by American Society of Interior Designers Award for our excellence in Design in the category of “Government/Institutional Design" for our interiors work at The Field School. cox graae + spack architects has been working on The Field School campus for over a decade. Our most recent work was to reflect their desire for a "family room" setting, while still being a usable space for informal or formal meetings, performances, or presentations. Congratulations to the whole team!
March 31, 2015. The Potomac School in McLean, Virginia, is situated on an 90-acre campus in a natural setting that includes forest, streams and fields. The School embarked on a multi-phase campus expansion starting in 2001. The Intermediate School project wrapped up in 2013, and is the sixth building cox graae + spack architects has designed on the campus. This project reflects the school's and cox graae + spack architects' mission to create an environmentally sensitive 21st Century school and was selected to be featured in Architecture DC's latest edition. February 10, 2015. Principal Joanna Schmickel led the Two Rivers Public Charter School on a tour of their future new space at the former DCPS Young Elementary School in Washington DC. Contractor MCN has begun construction on the new elementary school program scheduled for completion in summer 2015.

October 8, 2014. Ed Foley spent the last Saturday in September volunteering at the 22nd annual DCBIA Community Improvement Day, a tradition for the architect. He joined over 900 other DCBIA members and friends to implement design plans developed by an architect/contractor team throughout the year.
October 7, 2014. Thanks to an involved community and support from the Department of General Services (DGS) and Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) in the District of Columbia, the new Ridge Road Community Center is finally underway.

Earlier this week, the National Presbyterian School community came together to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony for this summer’s exciting renovation project. cox graae + spack architects has worked with NPS since 2008, and began shaping the design of this specific project a little over a year ago.
May 6, 2014. cox graae + spack architects designed the new 34,000sf facility to include space to hold 160 beds, classroom areas, office space for medical, dental and legal use as well as spaces for day use to keep homeless off of the street both night and day.
May 2, 2014. This past weekend, the U.S. Green Building Council hosted its second annual DC NoVA MD Green School Summit. The National Capital Region and Maryland Chapters celebrated this year’s theme, The Intersection of STEM and Sustainability, bringing together building professionals and K-12 school personnel to share best practices related to sustainable schools.
October 23, 2013. Not much tops summer vacation for students. Not unless during that summer vacation your school is under construction building brand new classrooms for your return. That’s exactly what happened for Green Hedges School’s first, second, and third grade students.

On October 17, 2013, members of the community including representatives from roughly 15 architectural firms, joined Chancellor Kaya Henderson as she gave her address on the state of DC Public Schools. The gathering took place at the newly renovated Cardoza Education Campus in Northwest Washington, DC from 7pm – 9pm.
August 29, 2013. Last week, St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Arlington Virginia celebrated a crowning moment when their new steeple spire was lifted into place. The completed tower marks the Church's welcoming new entrance and signals that completion of their renovation / addition project is near.
August 27, 2013. Last week, Chancellor Kaya Henderson toured the results of this summer's modernization projects at six DC public schools. Henderson approved an aggressive plan to renovate these academic buildings over the short summer break in order to upgrade learning environments and align the facilities with current DC Educational program criteria.
August 26, 2013. Members of the cox graae + spack architects team pitched in this past Saturday beautifying the grounds and interior of Jefferson Academy in the 8th annual DCPS Beautification Day. The day is dedicated to sprucing up one of the District's schools to create a warm welcome for students returning to classes in the fall.

His presentation, "Woodrow Wilson High School: Transforming a Diamond in the Rough," touched on the project's challenges, solutions and its sustainability.
